The largest island of Hong Kong, Lantau, has of the most famous landmarks. Of course, the most notable of these is the giant Big Buddha statue; perched high on top of one of the highest peaks on the island it is made of bronze, is 26 meters tall, weighs 202 tons and is listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the world-largest Buddha statue in the open air and can be reached by using the nearby cable car. Close to the statue is the ancient Buddhist monastery Po Lin where the guide will show you through the “Path of Wisdom” between the rows of sacred wooden columns, densely covered with requests of believers of various confessions; Buddhism, Confucianism and Taoism. Here, in the monastery you will enjoy a delicious vegetarian lunch (included in the price).
After lunch you will go to Tai O village, the traditions of which are still maintained by its inhabitants and will surprise and amaze all visitors; and if you are energetic and want to include an early morning excursion you can add to the tour a boat trip in search of pink dolphins which is certain to please your children!
